Gates of Hell
Where a truly evil soul, or one that has sinned goes after being killed. A zanpakutou can only cleanse the souls of those down in the afterlife, sins committed during ones life cannot be cleaned and the gates of hell open up to swallow up the victim and lock their soul away to be punished for all eternity. The Gates of Hell have become unstable and opened up in Karakura Town and its evil is leaking, spreading and affecting the world of the living.
